"THE CONTEMPLATION OF THE PASSION"
The third phase looks at the passion of Jesus. This creates feelings of loss for the retreatant who has accompanied and befriended Jesus. A process of grief unfolds. One asks for the compassion to be with Jesus, especially at the cross. This opens one up to all of the suffering in creation. There is a freedom to be with Jesus in return for knowing how one has been loved by Jesus. For those who can "stay" with this paschal mystery, this is a complete surrender, totally giving of oneself despite the cost. One also humbly realizes that this sacrifice cannot be accomplished without God's help. Such humility is an awakening to the fact that one exists only because of the generosity of God.
“All I want is to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and to share his sufferings by reproducing the pattern of his death.”(Phil 3:5-13)
The Grace I Desire: to ask for sorrow, regret, and confusion, because the Lord is going to his Passion for my sins.
